I get asked all the time how I became flat. I wish the story was something really cool like I got run over by a steam roller, or I was near the Walls of Jericho when they tumbled down. The true story is pretty unexciting but one that must be told. Before I was Flat Zoey, I was regular Zoey Zimmerman. I worked at Kinkos helping customers make copies, design important work projects, send mail and other business operations. One day I was laminating signs for a customer, something I did all the time. On this particular day, the laminator was giving me lots of trouble. A sheet of poster board paper had gotten stuck in the laminator. I stopped the laminator to try to unjam the paper. Well, I reached back too far. Before I knew it I was stuck. I began to panic. I was kicking and screaming. In my moment of panic my foot hit the start button and there I went. Straight through the laminator!! Next thing I knew I was flattened and laminated. I could hear everyone around me moving about their day. I even heard them question my whereabouts. They were saying things like, "I just saw Zoey, it's like she just disappeared." Finally my friend Izzy decided to look closer at the laminator and she uncovered my dilemma. Everyone was so puzzled about what to do. I was inconsolable and utterly distraught.
Izzy agreed to take me home and see what she could do. When we got to Izzy's house that night, she could not find her keys. We were about to call a locksmith when I had the idea to slide under her door and unlock it from the inside. Sure enough it worked! It was at that moment I decided that being flat may be a benefit. I tried it for a week and realized I liked being flat. I could do things that no one else could do. I could hide behind bookshelves, sneak on airplanes and because I am laminated I never had to take a bath, just a simple wet wipe keeps me clean. So here I am 5 years later enjoying adventures everyday!
Flat Zoey
